| LETICHEV
(22nd September 2006) |
|||||||
|
The
visits to the family historical places started at
Grushevtsy (old name Voitovtsy) near
Letichev, where the mother of Elizabeth Meyer was born. It was a first
visit full of emotion to her ancestors place. Letichev estate belonged
at one time to her Great-grand father Count
Nikolay Arkadievich. The
church was built under sponsorship of Count
Arkady Ivanovich and
still carries the name of his daughter Varvara. Later the estate passed
to Arkady
Iraklievich and thus to his descendants.
Probably all (but one of his sons) were buried in the private cemetery
back to the church. During the soviet revolution the grave stones were
removed and dispersed but now they have been gathered again approximately
in their original place. |

Still
readable stones are from Vladimir, Mikhail, and Dimity. There are no remains
from the stones of Irakly and Alexander, but there are two empty basement
places with memorial stones missing. Assuming that those places corresponded
to the tombs of Irakly and Alexander, then all sons of Arkady
Iraklievich (except Nikolay
that died in France) were buried in Grushevtsy. |

September
23rd was dedicated to Kukavka anniversaries. The regional governor also
came for the celebrations. The liturgy and blessing of the new grave were
conducted by bishop Pantalemon in absence of Metropolitan Makary. At the church entrance, two lines of young girls made a guard of honour throwing flowers to the Bishop, Count Marcov and family. After the liturgy, the new funeral monument was inaugurated. It is located over the old crypt and replaced the previous fence. The original stone monument still visible in old photos was pulled down during the communist revolution and afterwards only a precarious wooded fence was restored with a simple cross. |

the body violently hurled onto the field outside the church. A floral
offer was presented by Count Irakly Dmitrievich's Grand daughter Marina
Bumagina and the Ukraine
